Variegated Jade Blade Head with Walnut handle. Haft inlaid
with rare Utah Dinosaur Bone.

A direct link to prehistoric times, yet more elegant than most fossils, this piece can be used to inflict the maximum amount of damage with speed and grace. Only when you hold it in your hands can you fully appreciate its potential as a powerful weapon. Yet as a work of art, it has singular beauty. It reflects the artist Paul Hawkins' desire to demonstrate primitive
man's ability to defend himself against much stronger and more powerful creatures than himself. The blade of jade is an exotic statement of brute force. The polished walnut handle gives the piece balance and comfort.
Anyone wishing to demonstrate his thorough grasp of ancient weaponry will do well to own this piece, and display it in his or her home.

Each of these hand-carved hatchets is a stylish weapon that combines the best of beauty, form and function. The piece with the black head and straight handle has a finely crafted and well-polished handle of Pecan wood. Its blade is of highly polished jade with a distinctive black color. The hatchet with the curved Pecan wood handle and green-gray blade of polished jade is a piece of understated power. It may appear that its striking force diminishes due to the curved handle; however, this characteristic only serves to make it more efficient as the hatchet blade has less of a distance to travel before it strikes its target. Thus, one may enhance its destructive force with repeated striking. Each hatchet gives the bearer a sense of power, while requiring ingenuity in its use. Yet to paraphrase Oscar Schindler's lesson to Plaszòw Commandant Amon Göth in Schlindler's List, the greatest power is the ability to refrain from using one's physical power to do harm. In other words, one may fully appreciate the beauty of these weapons and their potential for doing substantial harm, while exercising restraint in their use. Such is the joy of their ownership.

Montana Smokey Quartz Natural Pressure Shard with Ironwood Handle Hatchet

The Shard is as stylish as it is formidable. Who could have used such a weapon in ancient times? Was it a favorite of the Huns, the Mongols, the Gaul or the Vikings? What accounts for its unusual shape? Part of its appeal for a warrior is that it looks like a deadly weapon. With one swing, and a well-placed strike nearly anywhere on the body, the warrior can kill his opponent. This means that the hatchet has the ability to frighten even the most intrepid adversary, perhaps even one bearing a firearm, so that the warrior may not even have to use the hatchet to inflict physical harm. Clearly, the long Ironwood handle and dagger-like smoky quartz blade, combined with the savage swing of the bearer, make this a distinctively formidable weapon. You'll note too, the great care taken to attach the blade to the handle to make the hatchet both durable and powerful. Yet one may admire the piece for its artisanship. It's the artist Paul Hawkins' interpretation of an ancient battle-axe, and it reminds us that no matter how advanced our weapons have become from a technological perspective, a weapon like this one is sophisticated and deadly in its own right. We as modern-day human beings aren't too advanced to use it.
